Synopsys Collaborates with STMicroelectronics to Lower Cost and Power Consumption for Embedded Bluetooth Designs
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 24, 2003--Synopsys,
Inc. (Nasdaq:SNPS), the world leader in integrated circuit (IC) design
software, today announced that the company is collaborating with
STMicroelectronics (NYSE:STM) on an embedded Bluetooth(TM) solution.
The collaboration will provide joint customers with a low-cost,
low-power solution, by extending Synopsys' DesignWare(R) BlueIQ
Bluetooth core to support STMicroelectronics' STLC2150 radio IC.
Designers will be able to easily integrate the DesignWare BlueIQ core
into their system-on-chip (SoC) designs and connect it directly to the
STMicroelectronics radio to create cost-effective, low-power Bluetooth
wireless systems.
The joint solution includes the Synopsys Bluetooth Development
Kit, featuring the DesignWare BlueIQ core and the STMicroelectronics'
STLC2150 radio, for designers interested in a proven, embedded
solution for Bluetooth-enabled applications. STMicroelectronics'
STLC2150 is a fully integrated Bluetooth single-chip radio transceiver
that offers low-cost, compact and complete short-range wireless
connectivity for a variety of applications.
"We are working closely with Synopsys to ensure that our Bluetooth
radio and Synopsys' BlueIQ core provide customers with an
easy-to-integrate, low-cost, low-power and low-risk solution for their
embedded Bluetooth systems," said Jacques Wenin, Bluetooth Business
Unit director at STMicroelectronics. "Bluetooth technology can be
easily incorporated into designers' ASICs, FPGAs and SoC designs."
"Synopsys seeks opportunities to work with semiconductor leaders
such as STMicroelectronics to deliver proven Bluetooth technology to
our mutual customers," said Joachim Kunkel, vice president of
marketing, Intellectual Property (IP) and Design Services Group at
Synopsys. "By extending our DesignWare BlueIQ core to work optimally
with the STMicroelectronics STLC2150 radio, our companies will provide
designers with a complete Bluetooth solution that takes advantage of
the latest features of the standard."
Synopsys' DesignWare BlueIQ Core is a synthesizable IP core that
includes a complete Bluetooth Link Manager and Baseband Controller. It
can be targeted to ASIC processes or field-programmable gate arrays
(FPGAs). The core is optimized for low power and easy integration into
new and existing designs and includes a 6811-compatible 8-bit
microcontroller that completely offloads the host CPU of all real-time
Bluetooth activity.
Pricing and Availability
The DesignWare BlueIQ core support for the STMicroelectronics
STLC2150 radio will be available at no additional cost to DesignWare
BlueIQ licensees and is scheduled for general availability in the
third quarter of calendar 2003.
